Tavcor VW unveils new kombi’s designed by students

Tavcor Volkswagen launched a campaign on the 19th of April for the locals of Nelson Mandela Bay to create an innovative and creative design for their kombi that will be driven around the Bay with the theme ‘The Coastal Kombi’.

The competition ran until the 28th of July and entries were submitted in three categories - Junior, Senior and Open. The competition was aimed at Primary School, High School, and older people, who put their artistic skills to the test and see if their design would be picked.

Nine finalists were selected, three for each category and one winner from each category was given a cash prize, for the Junior and Senior winners, they would receive R1 500 and their School would receive R1 500, and the winner of the open category would receive R1 500.

For the overall winner, they would receive an amount of R3 500, if they are form a school, R1500 of the amount would then go to their school if they were in the Open category they would then receive the full amount.

Tavco Volkswagen design a Kombi competition awards function where the winners were to be announced was held at Tavcor VW in Port Elizabeth on Thursday. Over 488 people entered the competition, of which 344 came from Primary Schools, 82 from High Schools and 22 Open entries.

“As a family business we want to engage with the families in the Nelson Mandela Metro, and what better way than to have a colouring in competition that everyone can enjoy,” said Martin Taverner, General Manager, New Car Sales.

“The reason we chose a kombi to colour in was due it being the most widely used vehicles by families. Short of the beetle, the kombi is the longest standing vehicle in the Volkswagen range,”

The winners for each category were:

Junior – Tasnim Hossain, Erica Girls Primary School

Senior– Byunhwi Lee, St Dominic’s Priory

Open – Ashleigh Darne

Overall – Rachel Barry, Pearson High School.

However, due to the standard of the competition and the sheer amount of entries they received, Tavcor decided to wrap a second Service Shuttle for the runner up in the Overall competition, which was awarded to Tasnim Hossain.
