Suspect busted with unlicensed firearm and ammunition

A 35-year-old male from Sidi Location, Border Post, outside King Williams Town, is expected in court soon after he was arrested by Steve Vukile Tshwete police officers early on Tuesday morning, at about 02h00, for illegal firearm possession.

"Police followed up the information they received about a male that had a firearm in the village and went to his home," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"Upon arrival, they found a male and searched the house with no success, upon investigation the suspect took Police to the place where he hide the firearm."

She said that police recovered a 7.65 pistol and a magazine with three live ammunition.

"The serial number was not filed off, but the firearm does not belong to the suspect," Captain Mawisa added.

"The suspect was charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition."

He will appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court soon.

The Station Commander of Steve Vukile Tshwete SAPS, Captain Zinakile Siphika thanked the community for sharing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspect.

He also encouraged the community members to report the criminals and/or criminal activities to the police on Crime Stop by dialing 08600 10111, SMS Crime Line 32211 or contact the nearest police station.

"Police swift response led to the arrest and confiscation of firearm and ammunition, and that prevented crime during this Festive Season," he added.
