Overstrand Municipality's 2018 Madiba Day Project

With winter cold that has arrived earlier than expected and many people caught off guard, we have a long, cold season ahead of us.

During the past week, and with the upcoming Mandela Day events in mind, many residents enquired about how they can become involved and what they can do to make a difference in the lives of people in need.

Overstrand Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Alderman Dudley Coetzee, would like to invite you to make a meaningful contribution to your community and calls on residents, businesses and organisations of the Overstrand to take heart and honour Madiba’s legacy by contributing towards a warmer winter for those less privileged - specifically our children.

Donations of knitted scarfs, beanies and jerseys for children ages 18 months up to 6 years are most welcome. Contributions such as blankets, warm clothing, towels and care packages for women and children are always welcome.

Donations can be dropped off at the Mayor’s office in Magnolia Street, Hermanus, or at the respective local Municipal Area Managers’ offices: Fifth Avenue, Kleinmond (Charmaine Kotzé), Main Road, Gansbaai (Marzaan Middleton) or Queen Victoria Street, Stanford (Nataley Cornelius). An alternative drop-off point is at the Fire Services Department in Mussel Street, Hermanus Industria.

The Year 2018 marks the centenary of the late South Africa president Nelson Mandela.

As part of the Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations, South African Tourism has identified 100 experiences, attractions and destinations that have strong ties to his life. There's also a special App that can be downloaded that encourages all to visit Madiba tourist spots in SA.
