Uitenhage woman and her twin boys die in fire, husband in hospital

Police in Uitenhage have opened an inquest docket for investigation after three members of a family died after their informal home allegedly burned down at about 04:45 on Thursday morning.

"The family lived at the back of the main home in 75 24th Avenue, Langa (Kamesh), Uitenhage, and were still asleep when the home allegedly caught fire," described police spokesperson, Capt Gerda Swart.

"Police and the Fire Department were summoned to the scene where the home was engulfed in flames.

"The victims were - the mother, Vuyokazi Klaas (35) and her twins (both boys), Abongile Klaas (4) and Bonginkosi Klaas (4)."

She said that the father (42), the sole survivor, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and it is under investigation."

The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Laurence Soekoe expressed his sincere condolences towards the family for their big lost.
