Twenty Arts and Crafts enthusiasts enjoyed a fun and creative, three hour workshop at Peace of Art, on Saturday. With each participant taking a beautiful custom made, craft box home with them at the end of the day.

Peace of Art, run by Psychologist and Port Elizabeth business woman, Nelmari Oosthuysen, first opened its doors in 2005 and Nelmari has never looked back as the business has grown from strength to strength.

“I opened the business because I practice in art therapy and I believe art is a therapeutic tool. I also do a lot of art therapy training for different outreach projects in Port Elizabeth, such as the EP Children’s Home, as well as projects in the Red township” said Nelmari.

Peace of art, not only sells an extensive range of art and craft materials, but also offers adult and children’s art and craft workshops, which run every day from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00-12:00 and 14:00- 16:00.

“We are also currently running school holiday workshops, where children can choose from a wide range of activities, such as –making a fairy house, a unicorn bottle or a pirate clock, the choices are endless” added Nelmari.

Nelmari also noted that the classes are extremely popular and always fully booked, so advises that those wanting to attend workshops must book ahead.

Peace of art has wonderful art and craft facilities- with two workshop spaces that can host up to 40 people at a time, a cosy café and an outdoor children’s play area.

The art workshops include all craft materials, as well as a complimentary cup of coffee and cake.

Saturday morning classes run from 9:00 to 12:00 and vary from Mixed media classes, Mosaic classes and even Clock making classes.

Mixed media participant, Cornè Bester said, “I decided to sign myself and my daughter up for the class, while she is home from her studies. It is a great way for us to spend some quality time together”.

Participant, Petro Ferreira said, “All four of us at this table work together, we did the workshop because we wanted to do something fun, relaxing and enjoyable together”.
