Car found ablaze in KwaNobuhle minutes after owner hijacked by armed men

Police are appealing to the community to be alert and to report any suspicious or crime-related activities after a hijacked vehicle was recovered torched in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, on Thursday night.

"It is alleged that on Thursday, at around 22:15, a 56-year-old owner of a silver Volkswagen Golf was stationary in Huna Road, KwaNobuhle, when three men armed with firearms knocked at his window," described police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"The complainant further alleged that the suspects forced him out of his vehicle and they drove off.

"The incident was immediately reported to SAPS Kwanobuhle, who recovered the vehicle within minutes, less than a kilometre from the scene, burning in Matanzima Road, KwaNobuhle."

She said that the community is urged to report any information that can assist the SAPS in their investigation of this incident by calling SAPS Kwanobuhle at 041 978 8600, Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or SMS Line 32211.

"All information will be dealt with the strictest confidentiality."

Following this incident, Eastern Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, warned: “Acts of criminality will not be tolerated by the SAPS.

"We will be stamping the authority of the State by re-claiming the streets from criminals and protect innocent people. Criminals need to eradicate their perception that they have dominion over the SAPS."
