Truck driver killed in an accident, Butterworth police investigating

Butterworth police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 40-year-old truck driver was killed in an accident over the weekend.

"It is alleged that on Sunday, at about 08:00, a truck that was carrying bags of sugar crossed the road along N2 road and stopped near the dongas at Ndabakazi Village, Butterworth," said police spokesperson,  Capt Jackson Manatha.

"The truck was from Butterworth direction towards East London.

"The forty year old truck driver passed away at the scene."

Cause of accident under investigation by Butterworth police

Captain Manatha said that the truck did not collide with any other vehicle.

"The cause of the accident is not known," he added.

"The identity of the truck driver will be made known once his family has been officially informed of his death."
