Enjoy a Summer Breakfast this 'Socktober' with Locally Yours Market

Port Elizabeth - Join the Locally Yours Market in the “Socktober” challenge on Sunday, 6th October at the Tramways Building in Nelson Mandela Bay from 9am – 3pm.

The Locally Yours Market is set to impress this October with authentic handmade products by local entrepreneurs, summer menu additions and an auction of a Sharon Boyd art piece alongside the “Socktober” campaign in aid of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL).

The “Socktober” challenge posed to all market goers is based on the concept of filling up those single odd socks that have no mates with pet food, and to then deliver them to volunteers at the market. Each sock has the potential to supply one meal to a pet in the care of the AACL.

To further enhance the ongoing support of the Locally Yours Market to the AACL, there is an online bid for a beautiful painting from the Sharon Boyd collection, called "Frida Cathloe'. The highest bidder will collect the painting at the Locally Yours Market on Sunday, 6th October.

“Every household finds themselves in a quandary of what to do with those random unmatched socks and Locally Yours Market has become synonymous at creative fun with a purpose. We encourage all market visitors to enjoy the superb market atmosphere while donating pet food to those who cannot speak for themselves”, shared Ms Annelize Botha, market director.

With the market scheduled to take place on a Sunday for the month of October, it provides the ideal occasion to introduce new breakfast additions to the summer menus. Flavoursome offers include bacon and cheese roosterkoek, sweet and savoury foldies, breakfast wraps, French toast and croissants.

Diversifying the menu options to include vegetarian and vegan options to cater for all patrons welcomes the addition of egg free French toast, fruit skewers and sought after breakfast cups that contain chocolate flavour muesli, yoghurts and fruit to name a few.

Ms Botha further advised, “There is no need to fret, should you not be on time for the breakfast serving which ends at 10:30am, as the lunch menus are just as scrumptious with tastes and flavours to cater for the entire family.”

Inventive meal options by food vendors will be showcased in the revitalised summer menu choices that will entice all foodies from meat lovers, those with a sweet tooth, vegetarians and vegans.

Market goers will be spoilt for choice with creative items such as the Bugs Bunny which is slow cooked ginger, garlic and soy glazed carrot served in a hot dog roll topped with pickled slaw and deli mayo as a vegetarian option.

The vegan alternatives include the gluten free wrap or vegan carrot and zucchini muffins.

For those with a fondness for something sweet, the limitless assortments present a superb collection of cupcakes, ginger snaps, fudge, chocolate brownies, ice-cream as well as vegan chocolate cupcakes.

The realm of creativity growing the entrepreneurship industry in Nelson Mandela Bay allows for the Locally Yours Market to welcome an array of new vendors in October. An already superb selection of handmade local crafts, food and music will be expanded through new participants who include Bibs and Bowls, Organic Alchemy, Shirley Louw Modern Art, Mosaic 4 Africa, iBreathe and About Bread & Cheese.

Bibs and Bowls strive to assist moms with convenience while still providing healthy meals for babies when starting with solids. The frozen puree cubes contain no salt, no sugar, no preservatives and use free-range meat. About Bread & Cheese pride themselves on artisanal products that include a range of Dutch cheeses, Gouda, Cheddar and Blue Cheese.

Discover enchanting art by Shirley Louw Modern Art who is the only artist in the whole of Eastern Cape that does alcohol ink art while Mosaic 4 Africa creates unique handmade quality mosaic pieces.

Organic Alchemy supplies a range of skincare products using only natural and organic ingredients while iBreathe offer revitalising blends of aromatherapy roller balls that aid sleeplessness, anxiety, depression and more.

The Locally Yours Market continues to waive their entrance fee and have instead opted to ask for donations towards the Animal Anti-Cruelty League. Visit the market, enjoy the creative offerings and enter a variety of competitions while supporting a good cause.

The next Locally Yours Market can be enjoyed on Sunday the 6th October between 9am-3pm at the Tramways Building, Lower Valley Road, Port Elizabeth.
