Port Elizabeth police continued with crime prevention in St Georges Park

Port Elizabeth -Port Elizabeth police on Wednesday continued with their crime prevention efforts in an attempt to reduce crime and deter criminals.

"In order to effectively reduce crime, it is necessary to inform communities of their role in safeguarding their valuables as well as taking proactive measures in avoiding becoming a victim of crime," explained police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"Once again, on Tuesday, SAPS Humewood members took to the streets in and around the St George’s Park area.

"Theft out of/from motor vehicles is rife in this area and members did foot patrols and handed out safety pamphlets to people."

Col Naidu ssaid that safety hints were also left on the windscreens of vehicles.

"While on this awareness campaign, it was clear that many people are still negligent and are leaving valuables within sight in their vehicles. This entices the opportunistic criminal lurking nearby."

Col Naidu said that police officers also approached drivers with courtesy and professionalism while at the same time informing them of their safety.

"The people were very receptive of the police presence and welcomed their proactive initiative," she added.

"As crime prevention is everybody’s business, an appeal was made by the police to the citizens of Port Elizabeth that as a society ‘let us not prepare the crime for the criminal to commit it.’"
