Locals urged to take advantage of amazing Sho't Left flight and travel deals

With Heritage and Tourism Month edging to a close, South Africans can still explore their country by taking advantage of reduced flights and tour packages, says South African Airways (SAA).

The national carrier urged locals to take advantage of amazing Sho't Left flight and travel deals.

The packages which kicked off on Heritage Day, 24 September, will continue until 30 September.

“From 24 - 30 September local travellers will have access to a number of reduced SAA flights, for travel until 31 January 2019, and accommodation and tour packages to various popular destinations across the country as part of SA Tourism’s Sho’t Left Travel Week,” said SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali.

Tlali said the travel deals will do much to encourage those that have always wanted to explore the beauty and cultural heritage of the country.

Local travel is accessible

“SAA together with SA Tourism want to make local travel accessible to everyone during September, being both Heritage and Tourism Month.

“While many don’t consider travel at this time of year, going forward we hope to instil a culture of travel among South Africans in celebration of the scenic splendour, diverse culture and rich heritage of our incredible country and nation,” said Tlali.

Meanwhile, SA Tourism’s Chief Executive Officer Sisa Nthona said the aim of the project is to make South Africans aware that tourism isn’t just for the well-off.

“Our aim is to target all South Africans and their families who want to see more of the country. We also hope to make people realise that tourism isn’t just for overseas visitors and that local travel is a lot easier and more affordable than many people think.”

The SAA flights and other offerings have been specifically designed to ensure there is something to suit every taste.

In addition, the holiday packages provide affordable SAA flights to nearly all major local cities including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth, with all package deals having been categorised by province.

“Ultimately domestic tourism is the main source of revenue for every tourism industry around the world, and going forward we are hoping Sho’t Left Travel Week will bring about an ever-increasing influx of South Africans travelling purely for leisure,” said Tlali.

September marks the annual Heritage Month in South Africa. Heritage Month recognises aspects of South African culture which are both tangible and intangible: creative expression such as music and performances, historical inheritance, language, the food people eat as well as the popular memory.

Tourism Month is also celebrated annually in September, and provides a heightened month-long focus on the importance of the sector to the South African economy.
