Stolen goods worth R400 000 recovered in Korsten - owners advised to contact police
A 30-year-old Malawian national, Tubooy Mussa, appeared in the Gelvandale Magistrates' Court on Monday on a charge of possession of stolen property and was remanded in custody until next Monday for a formal bail application.
This was after detectives from the Operational Command Centre, Crime Combating Unit and Crime Intelligence pounced on a house in Stemella Street, in Korsten, late on Saturday evening in an Intelligence driven operation and recovered suspected stolen goods worth nearly half a million.
"Police received information that stolen goods are been stored at the house. A 30-year-old Malawian national was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property," said Port Elizabeth police.
The following items, with an estimated value of R400 000, were seized from the premises: 1345 schedule 4 medication, empty pepper spray canisters, 11 cell phones, 1 iPad, 5 digital cameras and 4 camera bags, 2 DVD players, hammer drill, 1 Sansui sound system with 3 speakers, a TV wall unit, cell phone covers, a police torch, 7 laptops, 2 flat screen TV’s with 7 remotes and various accessories and cables.
Police suspect that these items were taken from housebreakings within the Mount Road cluster precinct.
Police are appealing to residents, whose houses were broken into and who could possibly identify their belongings to contact Detective Warrant Officer Gideon Niewenhuys at SAPS Gelvandale on 041 4022018.
