FULL SPEECH - Save South Africa convener, businessman Sipho Pityana, addresses Save South Africa's Freedom Day rally at the Dan Qeqe Stadium in Zwide, Port Elizabeth.
Hundreds turned up for the Save South Africa, which saw hiccups as hired buses stood empty for some time at some pick-up points as local residents had apparently not been made aware of the availability of free transport to the rally.
Despite both Save South Africa and the Democratic Alliance (DA) having similar goals of kicking President Jacob Zuma out of office over alleged bad leadership, that culminated in the firing of former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, and his Deputy and former Eastern Cape MEC for Economic Development, Mcebisi Jonas, as well as a double credit rating downgrade, the DA in the Eastern Cape held a separate rally at the Vuyisile Mini Square in front of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's offices at City Hall in Port Elizabeth.
The DA, UDM, Cope, IFP, ACDP and EFF as well as unions - Fedusa and Solidarity, last week announced the launch of the Freedom Movement, a joint effort to get rid of President Zuma.
But Save South Africa distanced itself from the movement saying that they are an independent movement and does not align itself to any political party.
