iMveli Cycling Academy holding a Mass Ride over increasing attacks on cyclists in Victoria Drive

Members of iMveli Cycling Academy will be holding a Mass Ride on Saturday morning in response to an increasing number of attacks on Cyclists along Victoria Drive in Walmer in Port Elizabeth.

iMveli Academy founder and passionate cyclist, Lukholo Badi says; “As cyclists, who grew up in environments like Walmer township, we cannot stand by and do nothing when local innocent citizens are being attacked whilst going about what they love.

"These attacks are starting to hurt the prospects of our City hosting major events and benefiting from the tourism boom.

"Every visitor generates about four temporary jobs that we as a City need so many of. We appeal to our brothers and sisters to look at us and see other human beings, family members, fathers and children. Please STOP the attacks on Cyclists”.

Interested cyclists and media are invited to join the iMveli Mass Ride from 10am, between the race course and the Walmer Golf club from 10am.

On Friday morning, Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Atholl Trollip, described on local radio station, Algoa FM's breakfast show, how he witnessed an attack on his cycling partner, Brian Spilkin, by four young men, who had been walking in the direction of Walmer.

Several cyclists have been attacked along Victoria Drive including international cyclists, who landed in the Bay for the 2017 Ironman Champioship.
