Religious fraternity endorsed spiritual crime prevention strategy and action plan

King Williams Town - Different role players converged at Eastern Cape SAPS Headquarters in Zwelitsha on Thursday to endorse the Spiritual Crime Prevention Strategy and Action Plan.

"Spiritual Crime Prevention is a community-based approach that was established by the National Commissioner in 2019 with an aim to address the different crimes that are prevalent in communities," Eastern Cape police said.

"It also aims at assisting communities in bringing people and resources together to prevent and control crime.

"The Eastern Cape SAPS management and Spiritual Services were joined by different religious leaders from across the Province to ensure the impact of the concept."

Police said that the Spiritual Crime Prevention Strategy was outlined according to the following pillars:

• Pillar 1: Strengthening of Family Structures
• Pillar 2: Establishment of Crime Prevention Support Desks in Faith-Based Organisation
• Pillar 3: Youth Development
• Pillar 4: Moral Regeneration
• Pillar 5: Prison Ministry and Community Offender Re-Integration

"The involvement of Community Policing Forum (CPF) in the process was seen as not only relevant but also brought hope to the stakeholders in terms of ensuring effective co-ordination, reduction of offenders and inculcating morals in the society."

Police also said that the Provincial Task Team will facilitate the processes towards the success of the concept.
