Swift justice: Two men convicted of raping American tourist get life terms
Two men, who were convicted of raping an American tourist, who was on holiday in the Tsitsikamma area earlier in June, were on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment by the Storms River Magistrate's Court.
Juame Thorne, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and his accomplice, Luwayne de Wee, 25, pleaded guilty to one count in the Storms River Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old teacher was jogging on a road in the Stormsriver National Park, Tsitsikamma, when she was overpowered by the two men and dragged into the bushes alongside a hiking trail before raping her.
Within eight hours of the gang rape, police had arrested the two men.
The woman's accurate description of the men's identical tattoo marks led to their arrest.
After receiving treatment at a local hospital, the woman returned to Gauteng, where she is currently teaching.
It remains unclear if the two suspects were poaching in the park.
