NMBRA lays criminal charges against Access, EP Rugby et al - read charge sheet
The Nelson Mandela Bay Ratepayers Association (NMBRA), led by Chairperson, Kobus Gerber, on Friday opened a case of theft, money laundering and corruption against Access Management, EP Rugby and Zeranza 299 at the Mount Road Police Station, in Port Elizabeth. The case is expected to be forwarded to the Hawks for further investigation.
This is after Gerber alleged that funds from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS), as well as general ratepayers funds, were illegally funding struggling EP Rugby since around 2009 to 2015.
“Tens of millions of rands are believed to have been looted from rate payer’s pockets by the stadium operator. The operator, under the alleged instruction of Oberholzer and Du Pissani, is believed to have submitted falsified invoices to the Mandela Bay Metro, to secures funds for certain events.
"These invoices were then allegedly processed by Gerwel, who is believed to have authorised payment, which then went to the operator,” Gerber alleges in the charges.
“These funds are believed to have then been redirected by the operator to third parties, who should not have been granted funding, such as EP Rugby and Zeranza 299."
