Elderly women robbed of TV and phones at care centre in Walmer
Two elderly women were left traumatized at a Walmer care centre after three men forced themselves into their room during the early hours of Friday morning.
"According to police information, at about 01:15, the complainant, who is a caretaker, heard a loud noise downstairs and went to investigate," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.
"The 34-year-old woman noticed two unknown men forcing the inter-leading door open.
"The complainant was overpowered as she tried to stop them. Three suspects armed with a knife and a screwdriver entered and demanded cash."
Col Naidu said that the two elderly women, aged 65 and 86 years, who were sleeping at the time of the break-in, were shoved around and assaulted. The suspects fled with two TV’s and three cell phones.
Police are investigating a case of house robbery.
"Police are appealing to anyone who can assist then in tracing the suspects to contact SAPS Walmer on 041 509400," said Col Naidu.
"Police are also warning the communities that it is an offence to receive or buy stolen property. If communities support criminals in purchasing stolen goods, more victims will suffer because purchasing goods in this illegal manner motivates criminals to repeat their actions. Reject any goods you suspect to be stolen and report the matter to the police."
