ECDC hosts graduation ceremony for businesswomen

The Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) and the Uitenhage-Despatch Development Initiative (UDDI) hosted a graduation ceremony at the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre in Uitenhage on Thursday afternoon for 19 respected business women from Nelson Mandela Bay.

The graduation ceremony was officiated by the MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), Sakhumzi Somyo.

“We must learn to do business in different and innovative ways. Our support is the support of government,” said Somyo.

The 19 women-owned enterprises were part of a nine-month Women Enterprise Development Programme run by ECDC and the UDDI. 

The programme is aimed at addressing challenges faced by women-owned businesses and it offers support in areas such as strategy development, financial management, marketing management, business and legal compliance, training, mentorship and coaching.

  • Buyiswa Tembani – Langa 1st Trading
  • Thandeka Esther – Nice & Tidy Construction
  • Nothemba Makaya – Emadekeni Hiring Services
