Man and woman arrested in Aliwal North with drugs worth over R61 000

Aliwal North - Members of the Aliwal North Cluster South African Police Service (SAPS), in pursuit of ridding the streets of drugs, arrested two suspects for possession of drugs.

"On Monday afternoon, an Intelligence driven operation was successfully conducted by members of the Cluster Task Team, Crime Intelligence (CI) and K9 Unit, who acted swifty on intelligence and managed to apprehend two suspects - a female South African national and a male foreign national," said police spokesperson, Warrant officer Moitheri Bojabotseha.

"Both suspects are detained at Aliwal North Police cells awaiting for their court appearance at Aliwal North District Court."

She said that police seized 552 Mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R55 200. Police also seized 28 grams of Chrystal Meth (Tik) with value estimate at R6 600, which brings the estimated street value of the drugs to R61 800.

Aliwal North Acting SAPS Cluster Commander, Colonel Mpho Rabele, welcomed the arrest of the two suspects.

He stated that this was a major breakthrough in removing illicit drugs that have festered among the youth and is poisoning our communities.
