OR Tambo District Municipality Mayor recovers from COVID-19

Mthatha - O.R. Tambo District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Thokozile Sokanyile, who is also the Chairperson of the O.R. Tambo Coronavirus District Command Council, recovered from the COVID-19.

"The Executive Mayor was taken to an isolation site on the 3rd of June after she tested positive for COVID-19," described Mntuwoxolo Ngudle, her Mayoral Spokesperson.

"The District Command Council (DCC) and the O.R. Tambo Community is pleased and encouraged that even though there are many lives lost due to this virus, scores of our people continue to recover, this is proven by more than 99% recovery rate at Port St Johns COVID-19 cases."

Mayor Sokanyile said that; “We wish to continue our appeal to all leaders and the community at large to exercise extra caution and to adhere to all COVID-19 regulations."

She added that the containment and mitigation strategy to fight the virus in the district will continue to be reviewed weekly by the DCC working together with Local Command Councils.

King Sabata Dalindyebo and Nyandeni Local Municipalities have recorded the highest number of new infections in the district, and are receiving the necessary support to fight the scourge of the virus and to flatten the curve in their communities.

The areas with less infections are Mhlontlo and Ingquza Hill Local Municipalities, they are also supported to ensure containment and mitigation of the virus.
