Uitenhage Anglo-Boer War memorial vandals get R500 bail
Two women accused of the second defacing Uitenhage's Anglo-Boer War Memorial on Friday appeared in Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on a charge of malicious damage to property. The two, Nombulelo Mkwena and Vuyokazi Voxeka, were granted bail of R500 each by the court.
On Wednesday, police confirmed that the suspects, believed to be in their early thirties and residing in Uitenhage, were taken into custody following a tipoff.
Their case was postponed to July 15 to allow for further investigation.
The Anglo-Boer War Memorial, which was previously vandalised by people suspected to be members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in April, was found covered in white paint on Monday.
Part of the graffiti read "... Lebo and Vuvu" - which probably was a giveaway as Vuvu is a common nickname for anyone with the name Vuyokazi.
The EFF denied responsibility for that latest attack.
