No load shedding expected this year – Eskom CEO
Eskom CEO Brain Molefe has reportedly indicated that the state-owned parastatal is unlikely to implement controlled rolling blackouts until the end of 2016.
“We don’t foresee load shedding for the rest of the year unless something goes terribly wrong, but I don’t see what,” Molefe was quoted by CityPress as saying outside Parliament on Thursday, following the launch of Unit Three of the Ingula hydro power station near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal.
The unit, which was synchronised with the national grid this past Sunday, is expected to produce 333 megawatts of power, and 1 332 megawatts when the remaining three units become operational in January next year.
According to the utility, synchronised testing of Unit Four has already commenced, while Units One and Two are still under construction.
