She said that the second incident occurred on 13 May 2018, at about 13:20, where a cellphone business was robbed in a shopping centre in the CBD of Uitenhage.

"It is alleged that the armed suspects entered the shop, threatened the employees with firearms and demanded the stock from the store. The suspects fled from the scene with several cellphones," Captain Swart said.

"A 35-year-old male suspect, Nomwabisi Funde was arrested for the robbery.  Funde appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court on Monday and the case was remanded in custody until 28 May 2018."

She further said that during the operation, a third suspect, aged 25, Nikelo Gaxela, was arrested on a warrant of arrest and he was also charged on a case of business robbery that occurred on 6 February 2017 in Uitenhage.

"Gaxela appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court on Monday and the case was remanded in custody until 22 June 2018."

Captain Swart said that no property or firearms were recovered as yet, but investigations are continuing into the tracing of the stolen goods.

The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, commended the team for their concerted efforts and vigilance in ensuring that they bring those culprits who commit serious crimes in the Uitenhage Cluster are brought to book.
