Man expected in court after killing his 88-year-old mother following argument
Ngqamakhwe police arrested a 55-year-old man for the alleged murder of his mother aged 88.
"It is alleged that both the son and the mother had a misunderstanding at their home on Friday, after 21:00, at Emntla Locality, Ngcwazi Village, Ngqamakhwe," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.
"The suspect is alleged to have used an sharp object to fatally wound his mother on the night in question.
"The grandchildren only noticed in the early hours of Saturday that their grandmother had passed away."
Captain Manatha said that the suspect has been charged with murder and will appear before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Nogem Mahamba aged 88.
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, condemned the senseless murder.
"This is unacceptable more especially during a time which we all have come together as stakeholders to celebrate women’s month," he said.
He commended the members of Ngqamakhwe Police for their swift actions in arresting the suspect.
