Body of elderly Jeffreys Bay man found tied to a chair in his home

Jeffreys Bay - Police in Jeffreys Bay are investigating a case of murder after a 79-year-old man was found dead inside his Jeffreys Bay home on Tuesday night.

"On Tuesday, at around 9pm, an official from a private security company summoned the police to a house in Pride of India Crescent in Wavecrest, Jeffreys Bay, after a body of a 79-year-old man was found inside the bedroom," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"Police records, said that a relative of the deceased, who is living out of town, was trying to get hold of him prompting a call to the security company to go to the house.

"It is said that on arrival at the house, there was no response and all the doors were locked.

"It is further said that a security official obtained a permission to force open one of the doors."

Sgt Nkohli said that it is further alleged that an elderly man was found dead and tied to a chair inside his bedroom.

"The name of the deceased is being withheld until next-of-kin identify the body," he added.

"At this stage, a motive and the cause of death are unknown.

"At the scene, a safe was found open, but it is unknown if anything was stolen.

"Police opened a case of murder and urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Crime Stop 08600 10111."
