COVID-19: Buffalo City Mayor goes into self-Isolation as a precautionary measure

East London - The Executive Mayor of Buffalo City Municipality, Xola Pakati, is in self-isolation after coming into contact with a councillor that has tested positive for COVID-19.

"This is a precautionary measure in line with the public health protocols governing the containment of the virus," his office said.

"Executive Mayor Pakati indicated that he has taken this decision as he had contact with the councillor, and he is comforted by the fact that the councillor communicated with him regarding their results.

"The protocol on contact tracing will be undertaken on all the people the councillor had contact with in order to ensure that they too go into self-isolation and undergo screening and testing.

"This is essential for the control of the virus."

The Executive Mayor also went for on Tuesday and the public will be made aware of the results as soon as they are available.

"He will continue to execute his duties whilst waiting for the results," his office said.

The Buffalo City Municipality also took the decision to close the East London City Hall on Tuesday for decontamination. It re-opened on Wednesday.

"Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and ensure that they continuously protect themselves and others against the virus. Let us keep regular hygiene, continue to maintain social distancing and travel only when it is absolutely necessary. We will beat this virus together."
